Do you know why is ovarian stimulation necessary and what is its purpose? Many patients often have this question, so we would like to briefly explain what this procedure is and why patients are asked to undergo it.
At Advanced Fertility Center Cancun we seek to help and guide you to achieve the pregnancy you have always dreamed of having.
This procedure is performed when it is necessary to obtain as many mature eggs as possible from a patient. This technique is mostly used in treatments such as In Vitro Fertilization, as several eggs need to be obtained for the fertilization process, a procedure in which the egg is fertilized outside the patient’s body.
The eggs are retrieved in order to obtain a good number of embryos, so that there are options to continue with the procedure.
During ovarian stimulation the patient will be given certain medications that will allow the ovary to work 10 to 20 times harder than normal in one cycle.
In In Vitro Fertilization, after obtaining the eggs and fertilizing them with sperm from the male partner or a donor, the development of the embryos will be observed in the laboratory. Those embryos that have developed adequately and are in an optimal state will be used and placed in the patient’s uterus so that they can continue their development until birth.
Genetic diagnosis can also be performed, to identify whether the embryo has chromosomes with any abnormalities that could harm the embryo during pregnancy or after birth.
