Pregnancy begins when the union of the ovule and sperm is implanted in the lining of the uterus. This can take up to 2 or 3 weeks after having sex, but to achieve this you must first follow a series of steps.
Ovulation is the most fertile moment of your menstrual cycle, it is when a mature egg is released and expects to unite with a sperm. During these days it is the best time to have unprotected sex.
This egg has 24 hours of life to be fertilized. If it is not fertilized it is expelled during the menstrual period; it is necessary to wait for the next menstrual cycle to try to get pregnant.
Fertilization occurs in the fallopian tubes, thanks to ovulation the sperm is able to reach the uterus faster and meet the mature ovum half an hour after having sex, although in some cases it takes up to 72 hours.
During this phase, the fertilized egg divides into more cells forming a ball (morula) that reaches the uterus between 3 and 4 days.
Fertilization can also be done in an assisted reproduction clinic. We recommend you read our entry assisted reproduction treatments in Mexico for more information.
The implantation period usually begins 6 days after fertilization and it can take up to 3 or 4 days to complete and form an embryo, to begin with its development. The placenta that will nourish it during its stay in the uterus also originates until the moment of Birth.
