What is in vitro fertilization?
It is an assisted reproduction procedure usually recommended when other treatments have failed to achieve a pregnancy. In this procedure the fertilization of the egg with the sperm is performed inside the laboratory.
For which patients is it recommended?
- Women who have a limited number of eggs.
- Patients with lesions and obstructions in the fallopian tubes.
- Men with insufficient quantity or low sperm quality.
- Women who don’t have a partner.

What is the process of this fertility treatment?
- Ovarian stimulation: Ovarian stimulation is performed on the patient so that the eggs are mature and in an optimal state.
- Egg retrieval, capture and aspiration: The patient’s eggs are retrieved and prepared for fertilization.
- Fertilization: The patient’s eggs are fertilized in the laboratory using her partner’s or a donor’s sperm sample.
- Embryo culture: The development of the embryos is observed to identify the best quality embryos.
- Embryo transfer: The embryo that is in an optimal state is transferred to the patient’s uterus to begin its development.
- Pregnancy test: A pregnancy test is performed to verify that the treatment has worked correctly.
