identifica la infertilidad masculina

Do you know what is male infertility? Commonly around 1 in 7 couples are infertile, meaning that they have not been able to conceive a child, even though they have had frequent, unprotected sex for a year or more. In more than half of these couples, male infertility plays a partial role.

At Advanced Fertility Center Cancun we treat both female and male infertility.

Infertility is due to low sperm production, abnormalities in sperm function, or blockages that prevent sperm from escaping. Illness, injury, chronic health problems, lifestyle choices and other factors can contribute to male infertility.

In some cases, an underlying problem, such as an inherited disorder, hormonal imbalance, dilation of the veins around the testicle, or other condition that obstructs the outflow of sperm, may cause signs and symptoms. For example:

  • Sexual function problems. For example, difficulty ejaculating or low volume of fluid ejaculated, decreased sexual desire or difficulty maintaining an erection.
  • Pain, swelling or lumps in the testicular area.
  • Recurrent respiratory infections.
  • Inability to smell.
  • Abnormal breast growth.
  • Sparse facial or body hair or other signs of chromosomal or hormonal abnormality.
  • Lower than normal sperm count, i.e. less than 15 million sperm per milliliter of sperm or a total sperm count of less than 39 million per ejaculation.
When to consult a doctor

Consult a doctor if after one year of regular unprotected sex, you are unable to conceive a child, or sooner if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Erection and ejaculation problems low sexual desire or other sexual function problems.
  • Pain, discomfort, a lump or swelling in the testicular area.
  • A medical history of testicular, prostate or sexual problems.
  • Surgery on the groin, testicles, penis or scrotum.
  • A couple over 35 years old.
