Although there is no exact age to visit the gynecologist for the first time, it is necessary to go before beginning sexual intercourse to answer any questions and learn about contraceptive methods.

These types of consultations should also be done when there is a gynecological problem such as menstrual abnormalities that are usually more frequent before the age of 20.

One of the reasons why teenagers ask for gynecological consultations is due to menstrual disorders. Each consultation is private and confidential to respect the privacy of each patient.

Types of menstrual disorders

During the menstrual cycle of each woman, changes occur according to the phase in which they are. However, there are some disorders that should be studied; some of the most common are:

 Premenstrual syndrome.

A series of discomforts occur for a short period, the types and intensity vary in each woman.  The symptoms are variable. These can be classified as follows:

  • Psychological: Mood, lack of control, depression, anxiety, emotional hypersensitivity, low self-esteem, fatigue.
  • Gastrointestinal: abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting.
  • Neurological and vascular: Headache, muscle spasms, stabbing sensation.

Other symptoms may include changes in appetite, weight gain, inflammation and breast pain.

 Amenorrhea.

Recognized as the absence of menstruation.  The lack of period after having normal periods may be due to pregnancy, problems regulating hormonal levels or as a side effect of taking a medication.

Some symptoms that may occur are acne, hair loss, headache, excessive facial hair, pelvic pain.

 Dysmenorrhea.

It is a pain similar to a cramp that can last up to 24 hours.  It is usually common in people who are overweighted or who smoke, causing medical consultations or self-medication to

It is an intense pelvic and abdominal pain that appears before or during menstruation.  In addition to this symptom, nausea, low back pain, weakness, headache or fainting may also occur.

There is no method to prevent these types of disorders, however some ways to reduce symptoms such as eating a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, reducing salt intake, exercising daily and avoiding stressful situations can be implemented.
